Namco X Konami: Characters

Well this is a fic project I've been working on for fun. The link is here: http://www.snk-capcom.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22866 This looks more like a slideshow but then again, the more obscure the game gets, the rarer the videos are. Also, yes, I've taken liberties and include characters from subsidiary companies like Banpresto (Subsidiary of Namco Bandai, creator of Super Robot Wars) and Hudson Soft (Subsidiary of Konami, creator of the likes of Bomberman, and even Bloody Roar) Yes, I've been influenced by many, but I just do what I like to do, for further improvement on software knowledge, etc. I tend to mix on heroes with villains so you don't get to see who's a hero and who's a villain. Keep on guessing, I'm evil. Hope you enjoy, and keep the suggestions and comments coming please! While the fic isn't finished yet!

Three KBR truck drivers were killed after U.S. troops apparently abandoned the truck drivers.

O.M.D. - So In Love (HQ AV)

1985's biggest-hit "So In Love" by OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Review.- Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (often abbreviated to OMD) are a synth pop group whose founder members are originally from the Wirral Peninsula, UK. OMD record for Virgin Records (originally for Virgin's DinDisc subsidiary). Formed 1978 in Liverpool, England, and led by Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey, Orchestral Manoeuvres(often abbreviated to OMD) are a synth pop group whose founder members are originally from the Wirral Peninsula, UK. OMD record for Virgin Records (originally for Virgin's DinDisc subsidiary). As teenagers, Humphreys and McCluskey were involved in several unsigned Wirral Peninsula bands, including Equinox, Pegasus, and the short-lived Hitlerz Underpantz. McCluskey would usually sing and play bass guitar, whilst electronics enthusiast Humphreys initially began as a roadie, graduating to keyboards. The pair shared a love of electronic music, particularly Brian Eno and Kraftwerk. The debut performance of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark was in October 1978 at Eric's Club in Liverpool. The group released its first single, "Electricity," on Factory Records; the record led to a contract with the Virgin subsidiary DinDisc. Using their record advance, McCluskey and Humphreys built a studio, which allowed them to replace their four-track, and recorded with drummer Malcolm Holmes (formerly of the Id) and Dave Hughes (formerly of Dalek I Love You). In 1980, the group released its self-titled debut album. Organisation appeared the same year, which featured the U.K. Top Ten single "Enola Gay"; Hughes was replaced by Martin Cooper after its release. The band's next few albums -- Architecture and Morality (1981), Dazzle Ships (1983), and Junk Culture (1984) -- found the band experimenting with its sound, resulting in several U.K. hit singles. Recorded with two new members, Graham and Neil Weir, "Crush", their most pop-oriented album, found more success in America than in Britain as the single "So in Love" hit number 26 on the US charts and number 27 on UK charts. After that one hit, coming soon "Secret" reached number 63 on US charts and Number 34 on UK charts. "If You Leave," taken from the "Pretty in Pink" soundtrack, was their biggest American hit, climbing to number four in 1986 at US Hot 100. they (Paul and Andy) formed the core of the outfit until 1989, when the group split. McCluskey then retained the name and continued to record and tour as OMD with a new line-up. In late December 2005, OMD's official website announced a 2006 reformation, for both live performances and a new album, with rehearsals beginning in summer 2006. The tour began in 2007, featuring the classic line up of McCluskey, Humphreys, Holmes and Cooper.

Made in Germany | Deutsche Bahn -- New Business Abroad

Deutsche Bahn's planned stock market flotation due to take place in late October was postponed because of the global financial crisis, but it has not been scrapped. News of lucrative executive payouts linked to the flotation have attracted considerable criticism. At the moment, DB managers are traveling the world on the hunt for investors and new business ventures. Germany's rail company is aiming to expand internationally with the help of its subsidiary DB-International. It has a staff of 800 and is involved in big infrastructure projects: from the building of a rail line through Saudi Arabia to the training of high-speed-train drivers in Taiwan. Only Germany and France have drivers who are experienced enough to drive these trains. Now they're helping to train their Taiwanese counterparts. Michael Altenhenne has visited the Deutsche Bahn's subsidiary in Taiwan.

Dreamworks sued for copyright violation

http://www.comcast.net/articles/entertainment/20080908/ENTERTAINMENT-DISTURBIA-SUIT-DC/ Dreamworks, Steven Spielberg's company which is a subsidiary of Viacom, is being sued by the copyright holders (not Paramount? - the article doesn't say) because a Spielberg movie called "Disturbia" made about $80 million at the box office without sharing, even though it is (according to the plaintiffs) suspiciously like the 1954 Paramount release "Rear Window." Paramount is now a subsidiary of Viacom. This seems to me like one family member suing another.

BAE Systems Capabilities

http://freeaviation.freeforums.org/index.php BAE Systems plc (BAE) is a British defence and aerospace company headquartered at Farnborough, UK, which has worldwide interests, particularly in North America through its subsidiary BAE Systems Inc. BAE is the world's third largest defence contractor and the largest in Europe. BAE was formed on 30 November 1999 by the £7.7 billion merger of two British companies: Marconi Electronic Systems (MES), the defence electronics and naval shipbuilding subsidiary of The General Electric Company plc (GEC) and aircraft, munitions and naval systems manufacturer British Aerospace (BAe). BAE is the successor to many iconic aircraft and defence electronics companies, including The Marconi Company, the first commercial company devoted to the development and use of radio; A.V. Roe and Company, one of the world's first aircraft companies; de Havilland, manufacturer of the world's first commercial jet airliner; British Aircraft Corporation, co-manufacturer of the Concorde supersonic transport; and Supermarine, the manufacturer of the renowned Spitfire. It has increasingly disengaged from its businesses in continental Europe in favour of investing in the United States. Since its formation it has sold its shares of Airbus, EADS Astrium, AMS and Atlas Elektronik. BAE Systems is involved in several major defence projects, including the F-35 Lightning II, the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers. The company has been the subject of criticism, both general opposition to the arms trade and also specific allegations of unethical and corrupt practices, including the Al Yamamah contracts with Saudi Arabia that have earned BAE and its predecessor £43 billion in twenty years.

New Line Cinema Ident (1995) (USA)

There are many variants on New Line logos and idents, and this is another one of them. This is one for its cinema releases, and was in particular use when New Line were a subsidiary of the Turner Broadcasting System between 1994 and 1996, which is why you see "A Turner Company" underneath. It obviously changed after Time Warner acquired Turner in 1996. In Australia and New Zealand, New Line Cinema licenses the distribution of its films through Village Roadshow Pictures, rather than run as a separate company. Warner Brothers - obviously a subsidiary of Time Warner - has its own separate distribution company in these countries. So it seems a bit odd that New Line chooses Village Roadshow rather than its sister company to distribute films in these countries. I presume it has something to do with the long standing licensing operations that New Line has had with Village Roadshow over several decades.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety: 2008 Top Safety Pick

Thirty-four vehicles earn the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's TOP SAFETY PICK award for 2008. The award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, and rear crashes based on ratings in the Institute's tests. Winners also have to be equipped with electronic stability control (ESC), which research shows can significantly reduce the risk of crashing. Compared with last year, automakers have more than doubled the number of vehicles that meet criteria for TOP SAFETY PICK. At the beginning of the 2007 model year, 13 models qualified, but as manufacturers have made changes and introduced new and safer vehicle designs, 10 additional vehicles qualified during the year. Now another 11 vehicles are being added to the list for 2008. Designating winners based on the tests makes it easier for consumers to identify vehicles that afford the best overall protection without sifting through multiple sets of comparative crash test results. All current car and minivan models, small and midsize SUVs, and small and large pickup trucks are eligible to win TOP SAFETY PICK. Eight vehicles from Ford and its subsidiary, Volvo, make the list of winners for 2008. Seven winners are from Honda and its subsidiary, Acura. The Dublin Fusiliers

http://www.tarawatch.org:80/ (Help save TARA and sign the petition) Sung By: Johnny Mc.Evoy http://www.greatwar.ie/ire_batbrd.html The regiment was created on 1 July 1881 due to Childers reforms by the amalgamation of the 102nd Regiment of Foot (Royal Madras Fusiliers) and the 103rd Regiment of Foot (Royal Bombay Fusiliers) -- who had been in the service of the East India Company until they were transferred to the British Army in 1862 -- to form the 1st and 2nd Battalions, The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. It became the county regiment of Dublin and Kildare in Ireland First World War The First World War began in August. and the British Empire declared war on Germany after it invaded Belgium. The Regiment raised 6 battalions during the war (11 in total), serving on the Western Front, Gallipoli, Middle East and Salonika. The Dublin Fusiliers received 3 Victoria Crosses (VC), the highest award for bravery in the face of the enemy, and was also awarded 48 Battle Honours and 5 Theatre Honours. The Regiment lost just over 4,700 killed and thousands wounded during the war. The Western Front The 2nd Dublins arrived in France in the month war was declared as part of 10th Brigade, 4th Division. The Division was part of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF), the professionals of the old regular army, known as the 'Old Contemptibles' after a comment made by the German Kaiser. The 2nd Dublins took part in the retreat from Mons, taking part in their first engagement on 26 August at Le Cateau that helped delay the German advance towards Paris, inflicting such heavy casualties that the Germans thought they faced more machine-guns than they actually did. The BEF then resumed their retreat, but many men, including from the Dublin Fusiliers, were stranded behind German lines, many of whom were taken prisoner by the Germans. The Battalion, badly depleted, later took part in the Battle of the Marne (5-9 September) that finally halted the German advance just on the outskirts of Paris, forcing the Germans to retreat to the Aisne. There, the 2nd Dublins took part in the Battle of the Aisne and later took part in their last major engagement of the war, at the Battle of Armentiéres, which began on 13 October and ended on 2 November. The 2nd Dublins took part in all but one of the subsidiary battles during Second Ypres that took place between 22 April-24 May 1915. The Battalion suffered heavily at the Battle of St Julien, the second subsidiary battle, incurring hundreds of casualties. They had no respite, taking part in the next two subsidiary battles at Frezenburg and Bellewaarde. On 24 May the Battalion was subject to a German poison gas attack near St Julien and effectively disintegrated as a fighting unit. The British at that time had no defences against gas attack, indeed the large-scale use of gas by the Germans on the Western Front had begun at Second Ypres. The 2nd Dublins Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Loveband of Naas, died the following day. The Battalion did not take part in any more major battles for the rest of the year. The 8th and 9th Dublins, who had arrived in France in December 1915 as part of 48th Brigade of the 16th (Irish) Division, were also subject to a German gas attack at the Battle of Hulluch, near Loos, on 27 April 1916, suffering heavy casualties. There had been trouble at home that month in Dublin when the Easter Rising had taken place though, in spite of this, the Dublin Fusiliers still performed with dedication to their duty. The British launched the Somme offensive on 1 July and the 1st and 2nd Dublins took part in the First Day of the Somme that saw the British forces sustain horrific casualties, some 60,000, about 20,000 of which were killed. The 8th and 9th Dublins took part in their first major battle during the Somme Offensive, taking part in the capture of Ginchy on 9 September. The Dublins also took part in the last major battle of the offensive, at the Ancre that took place between 13-18 November. The Dublins, once again, had suffered large numbers of casualties during the Somme offensive.

CINEMA LESSONS: ZOOM

Check out http://www.sinakhani.com Zoom lenses are often described by the ratio of their longest to shortest focal lengths. For example, a zoom lens with focal lengths ranging from 100 mm to 400 mm may be described as a 4:1 or "4×" zoom. TerraSAR-X

The German radar satellite TerraSAR-X has been launched successfully. A Dnepr launcher carried the satellite into space from Baikonur cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, at 04:14 h GMT (08:14 h local time). Fifteen minutes after lift-off the spacecraft separated from the third stage of the launcher. At 04:29 the first signals from TerraSAR-X were received via the Malindi Ground Station (Kenya). Orbiting the Earth at an altitude of approximately 514 kilometres, the satellite will use a radar beam to scan the planet's surface -- regardless of weather conditions, cloud cover or daylight -- and deliver fast and reliable data for a wide range of applications, producing a completely new range of options for commercial, public and scientific users. TerraSAR-X is the first national remote sensing satellite to be realised within the scope of a Public Private Partnership (PPP): Astrium developed and built the spacecraft under contract to the German Aerospace Center DLR, and also made a significant capital contribution of its own. The scientific use of the TerraSAR-X data is under the responsibility of DLR, as well as the mission planning and operation of the satellite, whilst Infoterra GmbH, a subsidiary of Astrium, specifically established for this purpose, will be responsible for the commercial exploitation of the satellite data. "With TerraSAR-X Astrium and Infoterra are going to turn over a new leaf in the area of Earth observation," said Reinhold Lutz, Managing Director of Astrium in Germany. "The Satellite will deliver radar data with currently unrivalled quality and flexibility. These data will provide the basis for tailor-made geo-information solutions offered by our subsidiary Infoterra to customers all over the world," added Mr Lutz. The satellite's outstanding technical feature is its active Synthetic Aperture Radar. 'Active' in this case means that the beam can be angled within a slewing range of 20 to 60 degrees by selectively superimposing multiple individual radar beams. This method expands the area that can be imaged by the instrument. "Whereas we can record a maximum of two images during an overflight from Munich to Berlin using a passive radar, it is now possible to take up to 20," explains Uwe Minne, Astrium´s Director of Earth observation and Head of the Friedrichshafen site. Also contributing to the wide diversity of potential applications is the ability to choose three different levels of resolution (16m, 3 m and 1 m) and image size. TerraSAR-X opens up a broad range of applications. The system's ability to operate regardless of cloud cover, for instance, makes it possible to rapidly generate up-to-date maps of large areas, in particular extensive forest and mountain regions. Many countries are also interested in quantifying forested resources and forest biomass. TerraSAR-X data could also be used as a German contribution to the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) initiative, a European action plan that combines data from terrestrial, maritime and space-based measuring systems. One of the application fields for TerraSAR-X data is reconnaissance. Intelligence services, reconnaissance aircraft and relief organisations benefit from systems that not only offer very high resolution but also provide a reliable, timely data acquisition. TerraSAR-X´s weather-independent, near real-time data acquisition capabilities offer these customers unprecedented opportunities to use satellite data in time-critical situations. TerraSAR-X is expected to have a working life of five years. Also on the agenda is the construction of a partner satellite called TanDEM-X, which will orbit the Earth alongside TerraSAR-X as of 2009. The pair will create a digital elevation model of the entire planet with a degree of resolution never before attained. Credits: EADS Astrium

THE ANGELS - My Boyfriend's Back

"MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK" - Released 1963. THE ANGELS, an American girl group, best-known for their 1963 number 1 hit. The Angel's had their first hit in 1961 with "Til", followed by a lesser success called "Cry Baby Cry". Both songs were released on the Caprice label. Linda left and was replaced by Peggy Santiglia, formerly of The Delicates. In 1963 , the trio signed to Mercury Records' Smash subsidiary label and began working with the Feldman-Goldstein-Gottehrer songwriting team, who wrote "My Boyfriend's Back". The Angels' performance was meant as a demo for The Shirelles to consider recording, but the music publishers chose instead to release it as it stood. The song was a major hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, but no follow-up of comparable success was released. Santiglia, along with former lead singer of the Angels, Bernadette Carroll (who had her own hit "Party Girl") and Denise Ferri (formerly of the East-Coast-based group the Delicates), sang background on Lou Christie's #1 hit "Lightning Strikes" as well as the follow-up "Rhapsody In The Rain."[citation needed] The group left Smash records in 1964, and due to a dispute over the rights to the name "The Angels", they signed to Congress Records and became The Halos. Peggy left the group and was replaced by Toni Mason. The group released several singles, none of which charted. In 1967, Toni left the group and was replaced by Debra Swisher (previously of The Pixies Three), who had recently recorded and released her own version of "Thank You And Goodnight" on the ABC-Paramount Records subsidiary, Boom Records. This lineup resumed using the name "The Angels" and released a handful of singles on RCA Records, with Bernadette Carroll singing lead, and made an appearance on "The Dean Martin Show" before disbanding in 1968. Jiggs, Barbara and Peggy regrouped in the early 1970's and released a new single on Polydor. Jiggs and Peggy continue performing as The Angels, joined occasionally by Barbara. Jiggs Sirico and Peggy Davison, have been recording and performing together since they were teenagers. They have been together since the 60's yet they still sparkle with energy and their personalities shine through every performance. At the beginning of their career, with Jiggs' sister, Bibs, The Angels did background vocals for Neil Diamond, Jackie Wilson, Anthony Newly, Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons, David Geddes, Frank Sinatra, Lou Christie, Patty Duke, Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme, as well as for arrangers and producers such as Lee Holdridge, Alan Lorber, Dan Costa and Quincy Jones. In 1963, songwriter/producer Bob Feldman was a staff writer for April-Blackwood Music. He heard that the Sweet Shoppe, across the street from his old high school in Brooklyn, was being torn down and went back for one last look. "While I was there", Feldman recalled, "an altercation started between a young girl and a hoody looking young man with a leather jacket. She was pointing a finger at him and screaming "My boyfriend's back and you're gonna be in trouble. You've been spreading lies about me all over school and when he gets a hold of you, you're gonna be sorry you were ever born." That night Bob told his writing partners, Jerry Goldstein and Richard Gottehrer, about the incident and they sat down and wrote a song about it. When it was recorded by the new teenage girl group from West Orange, NJ called The Angels, "My Boyfriend's Back" went to #1 on the U.S. charts and became one of the classic girl group records of all time. During their more than three decades of entertaining audiences, The Angels have had several successful European tours and have done many television, concert and night club appearances in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Lively and engaging, when The Angels perform, audiences are guaranteed a spectacular evening. They convey talent, warmth and friendship. Audiences of all ages feel the excitement and leave wanting more. VISIT THE ANGELS AT: www.theangelsonline.com

The Monotones - Who Wrote The Book Of Love

The Monotones recorded a spate of clever novelties in the late '50s/early '60s, the most successful of which was the enduring "(Who Wrote) The Book of Love?," (number five pop/number three R&B) in 1958. The group formed in 1955, when 17-year-old lead vocalist Charles Patrick and his brother James Patrick teamed with 16-year-old first tenor Warren Davis, 15-year-old second tenor George Malone, 17-year-old bass singer John Smith, 18-year-old baritone Warren Ryanes, and his younger brother, 15-year-old second bass John Ryanes, coming together at the Baxter Terrace housing project in Newark, NJ. They were inspired by acts like the Heartbeats, the Spaniels, the Moonglows, and the Cadillacs. By 1956, they were performing on Ted Mack's Amateur Hour, winning first prize and earning a shot on the show the following week. Unfortunately, James Patrick decided to leave the group to join another act that had performed on the same show. Undaunted by his brother's choice to sing with a rival act, Charles Patrick began writing new material for the group, the first of which would turn out to be "Who Wrote the Book of Love?" The Monotones demoed the song in the summer of 1957 and sent it to a number of labels, including Bobby Robinson's Fury label (Robinson had already signed the Kodaks after seeing them perform at the Apollo). Atlantic Records liked the song, but wanted it for their group the Bobbettes. By now the Monotones were convinced it was a hit and wanted to sing it themselves. With James Patrick's help, they were given an audition with Bea Caslon's Hull Records, first home of their heroes the Heartbeats (by this time James Sheppard and his Heartbeats had left for Roulette). Caslon decided to sign the group and record their song in September 1957. Three months later, in December of 1957, "Book of Love" (shortened by now, title-wise) was released on Hull's Mascot subsidiary. By January, it was too huge for cash-poor Hull, so the group licensed it to Chess Records, who issued it on their Argo subsidiary (it was released in February 1958). On March 24, 1958, "Book of Love" was charting on Billboard's Top 100 and the R&B lists by April 7th. By late spring, it had climbed on the pop charts, charting at number five and the R&B charts listing at number three, where it spent 18 weeks. By June 1 of 1958, the Monotones were back in the studio and trying their hand at other rock & roll novelties, perhaps trying to discover the secret behind what makes a hit a hit. Their next single, "Tom Foolery" faired poorly, however. A third session (in July) yielded a few new songs, including the single "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" but these singles failed to gain the group an audience. Hull, meanwhile, was engrossed in promoting the Elegants' hit "Little Star" and so the group turned it over to Apt Records, who didn't issue the song until December 1958. The Monotones weren't pleased about the delay and began looking around for another label. They licensed Apt another track, a novelty tune called "The Ride of Paul Revere," which was released in October 1958, but they were surprised to find out it was credited to "the Terrace Tones" (there was an actual group called this, too, featuring Robert Johnson and Andrew Cheatham, who had written the "Paul Revere" song). Despite the confusion, or maybe because of it, it failed to generate much interest. On June 4, 1959, four new tracks were recorded: "Tell It to the Judge" b/w "Fools Will be Fools" (the B-side was a "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?"-type knock-off) was released as one single by Apt and a new song posing yet another question: "What Would You Do If There Wasn't Any Rock & Roll?" (the song remained unreleased until the 1980s, when the Murray Hill label issued it on a Monotones anthology LP). Perhaps this latter number was a response to Danny & the Juniors' hit from the previous year, "Rock & Roll Is Here to Stay"? In early 1960, the Monotones issued their first true Hull release, a strange sort of answer song to their own record, called "Reading the Book of Love" even though it had been two years since the other "Book of Love" song was a hit. The group was watching their life pass before their eyes quite literally by this point and issued their last single on January 27th. "Daddy's Home, but Mama's Gone" was also an answer song (answering Shep and the Limelites' "Daddy's Home," which was itself an answer song to "A Thousand Miles Away"). The group's last session was February 14, 1962.
