My wife got the job in Warrensburg. One problem -- she was not yet driving. So we had to have me drive her to work from Kansas City. She worked the early shift and I woke up early to bring her. I slept in the van next to the station, which was great, because when I woke up... well... what else am I going to do?

While going to college and working at KMOS, I lived in a mobile home next to the tracks on the east side of Warrensburg. It was like heaven to me. On this spring day I caught a westbound manifest with a surprise on the end. It looks like it was hauling a private car for somebody, probably they were riding in it.

I was playing around with my new Hi8 and I got a westbound Southern Pacific merchandise train and Amtrak. On this line across Missouri, due to trackage rights that Union Pacific had elsewhere, the Cotton Belt Railway, a subsidiary of Southern Pacific, had trackage rights through Missouri on the Union Pacific, so the first train is a Cotton Belt (SP) westbound.

I was playing around with an old crappy tube video camera in 1991 with my friend, Mark, who was seeing his girlfriend off on Amtrak. Notice the 1950's era coach on the head end and the (now) old P40 pulling the train. Back then, P40's were all you had.
