Orono Public Schools re-opened three of its four schools today after a probable case of N1H1 influenza - "swine flu" - shut the district down Monday. The only district school that remains closed today is Orono High School. The district knows that its potential case has links to OHS, but has not said whether it is a student or staff member. Area students stand out Orono Middle School eighth-grader Andrew Casey has been selected as a semifinalist and will compete in the 2009 Minnesota Geographic Bee. It will be held Friday, April 3, at St. Cloud University. Bees were held for fourth- through eighth-grade students in schools throughout Minnesota to determine each school's Geographic Bee winner. Right now, 12 Wayzata High School students are witnessing history, being in Washington DC for the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The students are there as a part of the schools Close Up program, a non-profit formed in 1971 to help educate and inspire young people to participate in democracy.
