Two humpback whales approach the Georgie Porgie out of Freeport, NS in the Bay of Fundy on August 27, 2007. One of them breaches the surface only inches from the boat! I've been told that this maneuver is called "Spyhopping". Amazing!

On October 11, 2009, a dramatic event occurred on an Oceanic Society whale watching boat near the Farallon Islands, 25 miles west of San Francisco. The vessel Salty Lady came upon a group of humpback whales, which is not unusual as it had been sighting whales pretty much every whale watching weekend, However, on this trip, four humpback whales approached the boat and for over an hour circled the boat, nearly brushing up against it, and seemed to make contact with the 45 passengers on board ...

Its an incredible sight! Blue Whales, some as long as 100 feet in length and weighing up to 190 tons (380000 pounds), are being sighted off the San Diego coast at nine to thirty miles. H&M Landing, San Diegos pioneer in whale watching and nature cruises, will offer a series of Blue Whale Cruises from San Diego Bay this summer.
