Ashokan is a town in the USA, 100 miles north of New York City. The Ashokan Farewell was written in the style of a Scottish fantasy, in 1982 by Jay Ungar. It became famous when filmmaker Ken Burns used it in a documentary film two years later 'The Civil War'.
