Although the name may suggest otherwise, ferrofluids do not display ferromagnetism, since they do ...

Stop Motion Sand Sculpture

I made these pieces at El Segundo and Manhattan Beach here in Los Angeles. The time-lapse sculptures typically take around 2 hours. The stop motion ones usually take 6-7 hours. I usually don't use any tools when I work. The music is from the 2000 LTJ Bukem album Journey Inwards, the song is called Watercolours. I shoot with a video camera, but it is possible to do the same work with any digital camera. My website has more images of the sand sculptures: www.catdesigns.com...

For centuries the use of tools by humans has been used as a marker - one of several gauges of that particular quality that define humans as unique and self-aware beings. Over the millennia, the development and use of certain tools has effected the quality of life so profoundly, that one can scarcely imagine life without their use. Language, social structures, medicine, electricity, mass communication. There exists in our culture the promise of technological solutions to every need, problem ...

Pretty Cool People Interviews - Erwin Wurm

nothing less than a tribute to Erwin Wurm's work. It's filled with Wurm-style concepts and sculptural jokes inspired by his one-minute sculptures. Big Kudos to the Peppers for recognizing the influence Wurm had on their video. This one-minute sculptures project is our biggest favorite. Proving that you don't need to carve into a hundred tons of marble for six months to make a nice sculpture, Wurm does one in a minute. These quickie sculptures are based on simple, but powerful ideas that ...
