Simple resin casting techniques.

Block mold explanation. This is the most basic mold method for silicone rubber. This is a good method when speed is more important than overall cost. We used 73-45 platinum silicone for this particular mold. A cut block mold like this works best with rubber that is shore A20 or higher. This means a medium rubber. Soft rubber such as Gel-10 would be too soft and would distort at the seams.

Here's a twist on the basic silicone mask process. In this video we started with a silicone face pulled from a 74-30 mold. The entire process took about 2 hours to complete and used about 2 lbs of Platsil Gel-10 silicone.

Ideal for smaller projects (less than 12" x 12"), this is the easiest process for creating parts, patterns, tools, & molds. We demonstrate creating a silicone rubber mold and then the casting of parts with Repro, epoxy casting resins and polyurethane elastomers.

Here's a simple method for making your own silicone masks over a plaster lifecast or generic head form. Gel-10 has incredible stretch so a generic mask may fit many different people. We made this mask with about 2 hours of work and a 2 lb kit of silicone.
