This visualization shows the collapse of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, part of Washingtons State Route 99, and adjacent seawall due to a seismic event. The simulated earthquake is similar to the 2001 Nisqually earthquake but lasts longer, is closer to Seattle, or has a slightly greater magnitude.

During the ten-day closure of the route, the larger metal part of the viaduct has been removed and the temporary road completed. The road is now open and in less than a week, all the other metal parts of the viaduct have been removed. Work is now concentrating on removing the roadway from the eastern end and demolition of the brick arch bridge over the river in preparation for construction of a new road level bridge using the original buttresses.

Viaduct built by the Great Central Railway 109 years ago is to be demolished. It crosses a road, former mainline, multi-tracked goods sidings and a river. As the road is an essential artery, a new temporary road and river bridge are being built for use while the viaduct is demolished.

This reinforced concrete structure was the largest of its kind ever built when it went into service in 1915 on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. The bridge, 2375 feet long and rising 240 feet above Tunkhannock Creek, was the focal point of a 39.6-mile relocation between Clarks Summit and Hallstead. Here's how I built it! Each of the supports are 2*4s stuck in a plaster mix valley and set to harden. A Twin wooden board is cut to resemble arches and is placed on both sides of the lumber. The viaduct and valley are then painted appropriate colors and moss, rocks and other scenery is placed in the valley. Lastly the base of the bridge and parapets are laid down to give a realistic appeal. The result is a Viaduct!!! In case you're wondering it's 3'5'' long and is HO/OO Scale...
