12 students receive scholarships from Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort

Sipapu Ski hillSipapu Ski and Summer Resort, New Mexico’s year-round destination for family fun, recently announced its winners of the Sipapu Education Foundation’s 2009 Scholarship Fund.

Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort is surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Carson National Forest, and is situated just a little over two hours north of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The resort includes slope-side lodging and has been family-owned and operated since 1952.

The lull of the summer season presents a perfect opportunity to recognize excellence in education, which is the foundation of success for any great ski or snowboard enthusiast.

This is the second year that the Sipapu Education Foundation has awarded scholarships to deserving recipients.  This year, the amount of recipients was doubled to 12 from the previous year and a total of $13,000 was awarded.  The fund was created to support higher education in the northern New Mexico community and was open to Sipapu employees and their families.  Recipients were chosen based on academic performance, essay responses and demonstrated financial needs.

“Sipapu began offering the scholarships as a way to identify and encourage the next generation of leaders at out resort and in our community,” said James Coleman, Managing Partner of Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort.  “We commend the dedication and accomplishments these students have achieved, both in the classroom and on our mountain.”
