Daily Photo: Swimming with Sharks

Daily Photo: Swimming with Sharks

Despite what you might think after seeing this photo, yes I knew I was surrounded by sharks and no, I’m not totally crazy.  The only thing injured here was my underwater camera.

Trusting David Hocher (Staniel Cay Yacht Club, Watermakers Air) that these nurse sharks were harmless, I slipped into the water with my underwater camera in hopes of landing some up-close-and-personal photos and video of these sharks while everybody else on deck chucked pieces of shrimp to them.  This was at Compass Cay in Exuma, the Bahamas.  Tours leave from Staniel Cay to see all kinds of stuff in the Exumas: swimming pigs, iguanas, sharks, etc.

It wasn’t until I noticed the lens of the camera start to fog up that I decided to get out of the water and let somebody else try their luck at being circled by more than a dozen hungry sharks.

Here’s the video I shot while in the water.  As the footage progresses you can notice the fog developing over the lens.  So much for waterproof.
