2009 Ottawa Ski Show ready to dazzle attendees

Ottawa Ski ShowThe annual Ottawa Ski Show is pleased to announce that its 23rd edition will be held at the Ottawa Civic Centre in Lansdowne Park from Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25.

The show is certain to be a vital aid for ski and snowboard travelers and enthusiasts who are looking for advice regarding ski vacations, specials, equipment and news.  There is really no reason not to attend considering that admission to the show is free.

The Ottawa Ski Show is an excellent show to attend if you would like to plan a ski holiday considering major resorts from the Laurentians, Quebec City region, Eastern Townships, Western Canada, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Colorado will be on hand at the show.  Tour operators representing destinations from France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria will also be present.

Major ski clubs in the region, who cater to all levels of skiers and travel to different mountain throughout the season, will also be at the show to encourage membership.  A new addition this year is the inclusion of Nordic and telemark clubs, which provides even more value for attendees and expands the scope of the show beyond simply alpine.

Ottawa Ski ShowOne of the greatest advantages to attending the show is that retailers and resorts usually have special ‘Show-only’ promotions on equipment and vacations.  Ski and snowboard manufacturer reps can offer great technical advice to make sure that you know what you’re buying, and to ensure the best deal possible, at the super sale.  Skiers and riders can also sell their used equipment on consignment by dropping it off at the swap booth.

“Everything required to launch your ski season will be under one roof for 3 days”, says Show Manager Yolande Adams.  “The Show is the official kick-off to the new skiing season. Every year about 10,000 skiers from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec visit the Show to discover great equipment savings and show specials on lift passes and vacations.  Also, ski school directors and instructors from local resorts will be at the Show so attendees can speak to them directly.”

One last attraction at the Show is the Big Screen Theatre area which will feature the premiere of Teton Gravity Research’s RE: SESSION on Friday at 7pm and Sunday at 1pm.  The film features the Teton Gravity Research crew as they thrash through one of Alagna, Italy’s deepest snow seasons in record, not to mention powder in Poland, massive wedges in Colorado, new gap jumps in Utah and epic riding in Alaska.  The theatre will also premiere, at 1pm on the Saturday, Matchstick Production’s “IN DEEP: The Skiing Experience”, which takes an original look at the sport of skiing with award-winning cinematography.

The show will be open Friday, October 23 from 4pm to 9pm; Saturday, October 24 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday, October 25 from 11am to 5pm.  Admission to the show and all movies are free for the entire weekend, so make sure to drop-in and take full advantage of this amazing, once-a-year show.
