2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics: Alexisonfire concert cancelled

tripatlas.com/new’s Olympic correspondent, Chris Kinasz, blogs from the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games with the latest updates, news, and going-ons from the Winter Olympic Games taking place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

VANCOUVER- This is the Winter Olympics and the temperature in Vancouver was 9C during the day. The forecast is calling for more beautiful spring weather like this for the next few days.

Canada 8, Norway 0. I didn’t watch the game because it was a foregone conclusion. While eating sushi outside in Yaletown, I could hear everytime Canada scored from all around, complete with foghorn. Another reason why I didn’t catch the hockey game is because I was in Livecity Yaletown, one of the many entertainment venues in the area for the Games, like Richmond O Zone. Tonight, Alexis on Fire was playing.

The screen looks amazing, but the glasses provided weren’t very good.  Looking ahead, the 2010 World Cup of soccer will be the first sporting event to be broadcast using 3D technology.

Alexisonfire concert cancelled. At 9:30pm, after some opening acts, Alexisonfire took the stage. Immediately, everyone in the back of the crowd started pushing towards the stage causing a huge crowd swell that pushed everyone up front 15 feet forward. Soon after starting, the band stopped playing and started telling the crowd to collectively take ten steps backwards.

On top of the main act being cancelled before they began, everyone would have to leave Livecity Yaletown right away. Many would expect something like this to cause a bit of an uprising, but all of the youthful people in attendance simply accepted the reality and exited the venue without incident.

The evening at Livecity Yaletown is simply more evidence of the massive concern for safety that is being exhibited by Olympic organizers in Vancouver. Safety is by far the number one concern everywhere you look in Vancouver during these Games.

Celebrations in the streets. Every night, it is a massive celebration all around Granville and Robson Street. Robson Square showcases an “Ignite the Dream” show every night. The streets are packed with masses of people in every direction. People everywhere are collectively busting out in “O Canada” time after time after time. Everyone who is in Vancouver is having a blast! Let’s hope the negative media stops.
