Celebrity Cruises New Solstice is a Floating Country Club

2008 has already been dubbed, “the Year of the Cruise,” and Celebrity Cruises is making its stand with its new ship, the Solstice. It will be approximately as long as the height of the Eiffel Tower on its side, it will be able to carry 22,700 male African elephants, and 90% of the staterooms will have ocean views.

Launching with its first trip in December 2008, Celebrity Solstice will give a new name to luxury cruise travel. Geared towards an older crowd, the ship is said to have been designed like a country club.

On the top deck, there will be a “Lawn Club” – half an acre of real grass, freshly manicured, and meant for cruise guests to play bocce ball, croquet, practice short golf putts, and even enjoying a picnic on real grass – in the middle of the ocean.

Dining on the Solstice will of course include dining standards of country club goers. This will include innovative menus, extensive wine lists, and a fine dining atmosphere. This cruise will definitely require the need to wear a suit jacket at dinner, unlike many other family cruises today.

The Hot Glass Show will feature and display professional glassblowers creating new art pieces and glassware right in front of your eyes. This interactive demonstration will leave you dazzled!

MartiniThe lounges, bars and clubs on the Solstice are to be described as alluring, chic, and exquisite. From Ensemble’s plush musical entertainment, to the retro night club Quasar, to the stark cool as ice Martini Bar & Crush, to a more relaxed yacht-type bar like the Passport bar, to Fortune’s Casino, and Cellar Masters, the Napa Valley inspired Cellar – you will certainly not run out of distractions on board the Solstice.

Last but not least, the ship is full of decks, patios, a pool, library, and art gallery – just to make sure that there’s something for everyone on board. For kids and teens, there are two venues available to hang out – the Fun Factory play area and X Club, a teenager’s playground, coffee ship, and dance club at night.
