National Theatre of Yangon

Located in Yangon, the National Theatre of Yangon is a national theatre of Myanmar. The theater is used for various purposes that include cultural exchange programs with foreign countries, departmental workshops, religious ceremonies, performing art competitions, prize-giving ceremonies and for musical stage shows.

In 1985, the Chinese President Mr. Lee Shan visited Myanmar and offered to build a modern theatre to commemorate the good will between the two countries. The Burmese government accepted this offer and construction of the theatre began on 3 June 1987. The construction was completed on 30 January 1991 and it was officially opened on January 31, 1991.

The National Theatre of Yangon has a unique ability to bring people from different cultures to a platform where they can express themselves, consider, and appreciate their cultures. The stage performances contribute in cultivating the positive feeling through programs including traditional dance, music, and plays of both regional and international classics. These cultural programs and events promote the mutual understanding of cultures from all over the world.
