Let’s see what’s happening at the newly renovated Secret Garden Spa in Ontario’s Niagara-on-the-Lake!
What’s New at the Secret Garden Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada
Long known for its excellence in luxury accommodation, afternoon high tea, dining and spa experiences, the distinguished Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake is proud to share its latest triumph-newly renovated Secret Garden Spa.
The extensive reconstruction completed in June has totally transformed the 10-year-old formerly Victorian space into a 5,100 square foot spa with contemporary Asian overtones. Its clean design and chocolaty colour palette with splashes of aqua are complemented by the natural elements of earth, fire and water.
An intimate lounge area welcomes spa-goers to sink into a fine selection of body-friendly seating, whether in a private corner adjacent to the 120-gallon freshwater aquarium, or on a comfy sofa near the fireplace. The antique mantel of the fireplace is original to the 144-year-old Prince of Wales and stands as one of the only reminders to guests enjoying this state-of-the-art spa that they are actually sitting within a very historic building. Mood lighting and a trickling water wall feature encourage relaxation in the lounge, while a floating bamboo hardwood floor promotes quieter hallways between its 4 treatment rooms, each named after a garden flower. A brand new group salon accommodates 3 manicures and 3 pedicures at once.
Specialtea Treatments Compliment Afternoon Tea at the Prince of Wales
Treatments at Secret Garden Spa have also adopted a new flair. Combining the spa’s focus on overall health and wellness with the influence of ancient healing arts of Asia has resulted in a series of signature treatments using tea. It’s no wonder that, as the finest teas from around the world are being served daily in its renowned Drawing Room, Prince of Wales brings its tea expertise into the spa.
In addition to traditional treatments such as massage, hydrotherapy and aesthetics, Secret Garden Spa now features its own “Specialtea” treatments. Green, white and rooibos teas which contain polyphenols beneficial to health are all essential elements in new treatments such as the Green Tea and Sugar Cane Pedicure. Vintage Spas’ exclusive Vitality skincare line will grow to include the new products used in the Specialtea treatments.
Regarding the upgrade to the property, Prince of Wales General Manager Michelle Miller notes, “We invest a lot of energy in creating an exceptional experience for our guests, and the new style and theme of the spa is a perfect enhancement to their experience. We are thrilled with the results. The spa is simply spectacular.”
Additional improvements to Secret Garden Spa include:
- An open concept group salon with freestanding water wall and space to accommodate 3 manicures and 3 pedicures simultaneously.
- Three Gulfstream LaFleur spa pedicure chairs featuring Shiatsu and pressure point massage, ultra-sanitary CleanJet pipe-free technology, and hand-blown glass bowls that offer soothing LED Colour Therapy mood lighting

More on Vintage Hotels’ Prince of Wales Hotel and Secret Garden Spa
Vintage Hotels’ two signature spas offer an idyllic retreat in the heart of Southern Ontario‘s beautiful wine country. Secret Garden Spa is an oasis of serenity located in the intimate Prince of Wales hotel. Peaceful and beautifully designed, this spa provides the perfect blend of nature and nurture. Secret Garden’s sister spa, 100 Fountain Spa located at Pillar and Post, underwent its own complete renovation in 2005.
Expanded from 10,000 to 13,000 square feet, the spa was themed after its prime location in the heart of Canada‘s Niagara Wine Country, thereby naming its 5 new treatment rooms after local winery partners. Signature vinotherapy treatments such as the Purple Feet Pedicure were created using extracts from grape skins harvested from Niagara vineyards, and other organic ingredients whenever possible. In conjunction with the spa launch, a line of all-natural skincare products, named Vitality, was developed exclusively for Vintage Spas. Vitality products can be purchased at the spa or the online gift shop at www.vintage-hotels.com.
