Soak in the beautiful natural views of Abaiang

Abainag is a coral atoll lying in Kiribati and Northern Gilbert Islands. The total area covered by the atoll is 4,102.8 acres, with a lagoon that gives shelter to the anchorage. The islets of the Abaiang remain uninhabited due to lack of water and covers land area of about 0.872 square kilometers. According to a myth, the first inhabitants were spirits followed by real people. The first missionary settler on the island was Reverend Dr. Bimgham from a Boston based missionary group. Eventually, traders and more people also set up abode on the island. To the southwest of the atoll lies the Bingham channel that serves as a conjunction between the pacific and the lagoon.

A memorial was built in the memory of Bingham in 1957. During the year 1907, the catholic community completed the building of the church named Our Lady of the Rosary. The atoll is accessible through air via Abaiang Atoll Airport lying between the villages of Tabwiroa and Tuarabu and is also reachable by boat from South Tarawa.
