Wellness Travel is a relatively new but increasingly popular travel niche.
At tripatlas.com/new and Travel to Wellness, we define Wellness Travel (or the Wellness Vacation) as those getaways (be they two days to two weeks or longer) that take place for the primary purpose of achieving, promoting or maintaining maximum health and a sense of well-being.
Wellness Travel begins with INTENT: the desire or initiative to use a block of time away from daily life to kick-start a healthier more balanced lifestyle, or to improve or maintain one’s physical, mental and/or emotional state of well-being.
A Wellness Vacation could, for instance, take the form of a stay at a health and fitness spa (also known as a Destination Spa) to enjoy the benefits of the various treatments and classes offered. It could also be a hiking, cycling or sea kayaking excursion to take advantage of a fitness activity in the great outdoors while communing with nature. A culinary adventure to experience the different flavours and cuisines of a destination while kick-starting a healthier approach to cooking and eating is another option.
Anne Dimon, editor of Travel to Wellness says, “Think of Wellness Travel as pulling off the road of life to admire a sunset when you’re stuck in a traffic jam, or tearing yourself away from your laptop to water the garden when you’re up to your eyebrows in deadlines. It’s the rejuvenating, reenergizing, uplifting pause from the grind of daily life. It’s the search for better balance in what can sometimes be a chaotic world. “
We believe the Wellness Vacation should become an annual tonic for body, mind and soul.
