Church of the Society of Jesus is located in Quito, Ecuador. In order to establish the church the first of group of Jesuit priests came in Quito in 1586 but the construction began in 1605 and the first stone was laid by Mastrilli. The church is known for its largest central nave decorated with woodcarvings, glided plaster and gold leaf.
The architecture of the church reflects Baroque style. It features geometrical figures drawn on the pillars depicting Mudejar influence, Oranate decoration is done on the interior walls in Churriqueresque style. The floor plan forms a Latin cross and at the northern and central area have conventional nave, chapel and transept. The vault of the church is decorated with Mudejar, polychrome and plaster sculptures in gold leaf. The carvings on the main façade were of Ecuadorian stone. Design elements that were used are Moorish in the nave and artwork by Quito school. At the base of the central altar is located the sarcophagus with the remains of patriot saint of Ecuador and Mariana de Jesus de Paredes.
