Guyana National Museum, Guyana

Guyana National Museum is located in Georgetown, Guyana and was established in 1868. The idea of opening this museum came to the members of Royal Agricultural and Commercial Society of British Guiana.

The temporary museum was opened by W.L Heape on July 14, 1949. The museum has a large collection of flora and fauna, archeological findings, various examples of items related to Ameriindian crafts and arts and precious stone found on the land. The National Museum is divided into three main sections namely Social Industry, Natural History and Industrial. The social section of the museum consists of various artifacts some of them are a model of fireboat known as Lady Woolley, variety of dolls that include Indian dolls and Hindu Guyana dolls, models of diamond and gold mining and displays of cars from 20th century. Giant Anteater and models of fruits and vegetable are displayed in the Natural History section. The industrial section consists of items related to Economic and mineralogy that comprises of collection of different types of minerals. In 1950, Royal Agricultural and Commercial Society took the control of British Guiana Museum and the public free library around the museum.
