Leon Cathedral is a significantly important and historic landmark in Nicaragua. It is the biggest church in Central America and is must see when visiting to the historical city Leon. The construction of the building started in 1746 and took around hundred years to complete. The cathedral features three main levels, and each level represents something different. The lower level flaunts several underground sections that have been used as crypts for centuries. The cathedral is a home to some masterpieces of Spanish colonial art, and a statue of black Chirst still bears the hack wounds of a pirate’s sword. Further, you will find the Tomb of Ruben Dario, guarded by a weeping lion. It has a Spanish style courtyard known as the Patio de Principles. The façade of the cathedral elevated on a terrace, combines Baroque show with the neoclassical style. Besides it amazing architecture it holds a good deal of religious art that dates from the mid of 1700. After visiting the magnificent Cathedral visitors can also visit to the roof. From this vintage point, you can see the view over the city of Leon, including surrounding churches.
