Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

Founded in 1860, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is the oldest and one of the most important art institutions of the county. It was founded by Bishop Fulford and was created to promote the appreciation of fine arts among the people of the city. The museum has a collection of about 35,000 objects from all over the world.

Located in the historic Golden Square Mile, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts covers an area around 45,067 square meters including 13,000 square meters of exhibition space. During 1970s, the expansion of the museum was undertaken. Currently, the museum flaunts its original temporary exhibitions, which combine artistic disciplines and feature innovative exhibition designs. Each year, the museum organizes educational, cultural, and community oriented programs, in which families and students participate in a big number. Expanded pavilions of the museum house the world cultures, international art, and decorative art and design collection. The integral part of the museum is music that provides another perspective to visual arts, through musical audio guides and other innovative activities.
