You will love Israel from the first ‘Shalom.’
This is part of Israel’s Ministry of Tourism’s new “Who Knew?” advertising campaign that will begin December 2007 and continue throughout 2008. The campaign has been designed to target tourists from Canada and the United States so that by 2010, tourists from these countries will double from approximately 600,000 U.S. tourists to 1.2 million tourists from both Canada and the U.S.
Who Knew? – Israel has produced wine for over 1000 years
The purpose of the “Who Knew?” campaign is to showcase Israel as a dynamic, rich, sophisticated and modern destination. One major hurdle for Israel in the North American tourist market has been the negative image it has received from the news and media in the past few decades. Further, many think Israel to be a dry desert land, lacking any real attraction save camels and sand.
Who knew? – Israel isn’t just a desert, but in fact has 4 different climates
To dispel such myths, Israel’s campaign is focused on presenting the public with a modern, friendly, and beautiful Israel. Their goal is to give an image of an Israel that people don’t usually associate with Israel. One print campaign shows a dancer on a beach in the city’s reach; another of a cowboy on a horse in a field of green and gold wheat.
Who knew? – Almost every international hotel chain is represented in Israel and almost everyone speaks English (along with Hebrew and Arabic).
Many experienced travellers have noted that while Israel is no bigger than Prince Edward Island or New Jersey, it is the home of many the world’s best restaurants, spas, and hotels. Amongst many awards it has received, some include those voted on by readers of Conde Nast Traveler: Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport is the 2nd best airport in the world; and 5 of 10 of the Mediterranean’s top hotels are found in Israel.
Who knew? – The club scene in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem is comparable to Ibiza, Amsterdam and London, with all night techno and trance parties, some are even on the beach!
With so much to offer, including international-standard spas and resorts in the Galilee, at the Dead Sea, and at Eilat – there’s something for everyone in Israel – whether you knew it or not. In fact, Israel has the most museums than any other country in the world – and it’s no wonder. Cities like Jerusalem have been ancient sites containing unlimited amounts of history, stories, and culture within its walls.
