The Forbidden City originally called Zijin Cheng situated in the heart of Beijing. The Forbidden City is a rectangle (3,153ft) from north to south, consisting of 980 surviving buildings with 8,886 bays of rooms surrounded by a 7.9-meter high city wall. It was also known as Purple city. Chinese astronomers believed that Purple Star (Polaris) was in the center of the heaven and the emperor was considered as heavenly who lived in this purple palace.
The Forbidden City was designed as the centre of the ancient, walled city of Beijing. The city is known as forbidden palace because of its entrance that was strictly prohibited by emperor due to its religious significance and heavenly residence. Yellow color was considered as royal color therefore the roofs were painted yellow, the bricks were of yellow color and the decorations were of yellow color.
The palace has mystical gardens, several gates, musical instruments, sculptures, painting, weapons and many more things to see. The palace has been home of dynasties for 500 years and has the largest wooden collection of ancient structures in the world.
