Grenada National Museum is located in St. George’s, Grenada. Originally, the British used the building as a prison for the females until 1880. Later the building was undertaken by the two different owners and was being used as hotel, and then became a warehouse of a merchant working in St. George. In 1976, it was established as a Grenada National Museum themed at the aim to preserve history and archeology of the Grenada.
The main sections of the museum are Slavery, Plantation Economy, First Inhabitants, Whaling & Fishing Archeology and Early Transport and Technology. The displays in the museum cover various stages of the history from the Ciboneys to the Colonial period. The collection of the museum includes remains of pottery related to Amerindians, the marble bathtub that was used by Emopress Josephine and ancient rum still. Many exhibits are also kept in the museum that belongs to the war that resulted from US attack at Grenada and the assassination of Maurice Bishop. The artifacts that are displayed in the museum consist ofplus petroglyphs of native fauna, antiquaries from the archeological excavations and telegraph line that was first installed in the city in 1871. A program has been lunched with the title “The Grenada National Museum” with an aim to provide information to the visitors all around the globe.
