Latvian ethnographic open air museum

Established in 1924, Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum is located in area of forest park in Riga, Latvia.Influenced by open air museums in Scandinavia, Latvia Ethnographic Open Air Museum is amongst Europe’s oldest open-air museum. Located over a territory of 87.66 acres, the museum features 118 buildings from late 17th century until the beginning of 1930s. The museum house nearly 300 objects from four regions of Latvia, namely Vidzeme, Zemgale , Latgale, and Courland.

Preserving and maintaining essential documents and collection representing history of Latvia and its regions and facts related to rural life of Latvian people are the foremost objectives of museum. Besides, the museum aims at promoting and presenting Latvian heritage culture and educating society about its significance.

Collection here includes household and work equipments, houses of farmers, artisans and angler of Latvia, windmills, churches, historic structures and others. Museum offers many activities, events and shows for the entertainment of its visitors. You can enjoy observing nature here, dancing singing and playing games with your family, exploring the rich history of Latvian culture and many other things.

Moreover, museum announces regular exhibitions and festivals portraying crafts and culture of Latvia such as contemporary crafts Festival 2014, Russian North exhibition, etc. Visitors can access the museum either by personal vehicles or by bus lines or tramlines that run at regular timings.
