Located in the historical region of Courland, Liepaja Museum is amongst the largest museum of Latvia.
Opened on 30 November 1924, Liepaja museum comprises of Liepaja’s history of medieval items and objects related to 19th – 20th century. Liepaja museum house nearly 100,000 articles out of which museum only display 1,500 in its various exhibitions. Collections here mainly relates to the heritage of Liepaja city. Museum aims at protecting and promoting the major history of Liepaja from the historic period of Liepaja until present days.
First hall of the Museum features archeological monuments of Stone Age to Iron Age, the second hall of the museum has few objects and documents from 13th century to 18th century. The museum organizes various permanent exhibitions on regular intervals for its guest such as Liepaja in 19th century, Liepaja in the Middle Ages, Liepaja district history of ancient times and few others.
Besides, the museum hosts a learning centre that provides useful information and educates the interested people about history of Liepaja. Along with this museum often announces various workshops, themed events for the entertainment of visitors. Museum also features several seminars and conferences.
