The National Museum of Cambodia is located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It is the largest cultural museum in Cambodia with the world’s largest collection of Khmer artworks, including ceramics, bronzes, sculptural and various ethnographic objects. The total collection of the museum includes 14,000 items that belong to the periodic time of during and after the Khmer reign.
George Groslier, who was historian and a curator and gave the idea to create a collection of Cambodian arts, designed the building of the museum, which now denotes the architectural style followed during the Khmer reign. In 1924, slight alterations were made in the building like addition of the wings at the eastern facade making the building look more attractive. The department of Archaeology of Royal University of Fine Arts and National Museum of Cambodia worked together to preserve the culture of the Cambodia . It also has a collection of various religious artifacts like Buddhist and Hindu Sculptures. Several activities are performed in the museum such as presentation, interpretation and conservation, which are supported by foreign governments and various organizations. The museum promotes the culture and art of the Cambodia through various exhibitions.
