Prince’s Palace of Monaco

The Prince’s Palace of Monaco is the official private residence of the Prince of Monaco. The place plays a very important role in the lives of prince and citizens of Monaco. The State Apartments are open for public visits part of the year. Built in 1191, as a fortress the palace has a dramatic history, several times it has been bombarded by many foreigner powers. During 13th century, Grimaldi family who captured the palace ruled the area as feudal lords and later in 17th century, as sovereign princes. The stairs from the courtyard leads to the State Apartments, where sumptuous frescoes from the 16th century adorn the York Room, the Mazarin Salon, and the imposing Throne Room. The palace is in use for approximately 700 years. The palace’s courtyard is opened to celebrate important events such as Grimaldi weddings, annual children Christmas party, and births. It has been transformed into one of the most luxurious residences.
