Riga Film Museum

Established in 1988, Film Museum is only museum of its own kind and one amongst the most visited tourist destination.

Riga Film Museum has its first inauguration at Pietavas in a warehouse and after two years announced its first film exhibition “Possibilities in the Darkness”. Ministry of culture of Latvia supports and formulates the museum.

Riga Film Museum houses over 32,000 displays that include documents, sketch designs, movie equipments, audio, video tapes, films, photography and others ever since the foundation of Latvian cinema. Main mission of the museum is to conserve and assemble facts related to history of Latvian cinema and explore them on international level.

Although the museum does not feature any permanent collection, it conducts exhibitions twice a year to promote rich history of cinema and people related to film industry of Latvia. Students, media and other person interested in related field of Latvian film industry and cinema can access the museum’s stock and collection.

Besides these, the museum hosts various events like World Latvian Forum in 1990, National Film festival, The museum also celebrates anniversary of popular personalities of Latvian film industry, director, actors, producers, movies and others. Every third year museum organizes International Film History summer School in which relevant information and stories been shared with the participants across various countries.

Riga Film Museum is one such institution that best express the eminent Latvian cinema history that makes it the most liked tourist destination of Latvia.
