Cave Romance in Cappadoccia, Turkey

A cave may not be the first place you’d imagine spending your honeymoon but rest assured, I’m not talking dank, dark bat-filled caves here. I’m talking luxury hotel suites carved out of the bizzarre cone-shaped rock formations that are scattered around Cappadocia in Turkey.

The other-worldliness of Cappadocia makes it a magical, almost impossibly romantic setting for a honeymoon. Snuggle up on huge cushions under the shade of enormous canvas awnings, watching the colours of the stony scenery change from cream to rose as the sun sets, while sipping on apple tea, or champagne.

Get royally pampered in a hammam with spa treatments and massage.

If you’re feeling more active, go horseriding in the late afternoon to explore ancient, long-abandoned settlements and soft muted pink of Rose Valley. It’s worth getting up at the crack of dawn for the hot air balloon rides over the area, or even just to watch as the balloons drift around in the glowing morning light.
