Sun, seafood and trekking in Tenerife?

Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s sunny Canary Islands and host to hordes of tourists looking to soak up some of the island’s ‘eternal’ sunshine.

The island has long been recognised for its high temperatures and (practically) guaranteed sun but with a thriving tourist industry, endless white beaches, a buzzing nightlife, and even a measure of culture it has fast become a top destination.

There is a huge selection of hotel accommodation in Tenerife, from the very luxurious and exclusive to the more affordable, but one of the best things about this island is that even the cheaper hotels have high standards. The Villa Adeje Beach Aparthotel is based in hotspot Playas des Americans and a prime example of a budget break, also ideal if you want to be stumbling distance from the island’s party scene. If you’re looking for a touch of luxury the Costa Adeje Gran Hotel is the ultimate top end resort and home to an impressive four swimming pools, a spa, and a range of sports activities.

The incredible weather does encourage a lot of lazing about but if sunbathing makes you restless (or look like a tomato) then don’t despair, there are plenty of other activities to get stuck in to.

For the more adventurous among us Tenerife offers its tremendous volcanoes to trek up and around. Walks in Tenerife are well marked but there are guided walks to relieve the stresses of navigating.  The island boasts some of the most spectacular views and landscapes in Europe making it well worth the effort, and the promise of a large glass on sangria might soothe the pain in your feet.

After a hard day of trekking or, sun worshipping, to build up your appetite there is no shortage of food wherever you are on the island.

Tenerife restaurants range from the typical tourist haunts serving a wide range of dishes from all over the world to the more traditional. Canarian cuisine can be found all over the island and it’s worth going off the beaten track to sample it. Food in Tenerife is all about fresh ingredients, and being surrounded by sea makes it a seafood lover’s paradise.

So there you have it, yes Tenerife is the perfect sunshine holiday but don’t forget to peak from behind your sunglasses to make the most of what else is on offer!
