Getting into Bed at the Mandarin Oriental in Vegas

I’ve often been asked the question “What’s the best hotel in Las Vegas?”  Vacation-goers wishing to indulge in the best of Sin City usually have to choose between a series of compromises.  If you’re looking for an accessible location near the middle of the Strip, perhaps you book the Bellagio but have to put up with the noise and the busyness of the casino.  Perhaps you’re looking for some peace and quiet, but you may have ended up off the Strip at the Trump.  Luckily, I have a new answer for my favourite hotel in Las Vegas with the opening of the Mandarin Oriental.

The luxurious hotel opened its doors in December 2009 and after numerous visits to different properties on and off the strip, I have found a new favourite hotel to recommend.  The doors of the elevator open to the expansive 23rd floor reception with a breathtaking view of the strip.  The aura of peace and serenity was a stark juxtaposition compared with the bright lights and lively Vegas culture just a short elevator ride away.   All the staff were extremely professional and courteous, ensuring that all requests from extra bedding to room view were accommodated.  This should be no surprise as the Mandarin Oriental brand has been built on the foundation of first-class five-star service.

The rooms were extremely spacious with a refined blend of sleek contemporary design with subtle oriental influences, designed by the renowned Adam Tihany.  Their spacious rooms feature modern gadgets from embedded TVs in the bathroom mirror to automatic memory of personalized settings of drapery and lighting.  Other luxuries such as 480 thread count sheets and Aromatherapy luxury bath products ensure that guests are fully relaxed and rested throughout their stay.

The spa at the Mandarin has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Forbes Five-Star award and is a massive 27,000 square foot spa with a variety of different lounges, treatments and services.  Dining facilities include Pierre Gagnaire’s Twist on the 23rd floor of the Mandarin, if you feel like a splurge on many wonderful seasonal food offerings to complement a spectacular view of the Las Vegas skyline.  Another hidden gem is the Tea Lounge which offers a Classic English Afternoon Tea and is a great opportunity for the weary tourist to rest their feet and recharge after a long day of shopping or perusing through casinos.

If you’re looking for a new favourite hotel in Vegas, give the Mandarin Oriental a try.
