Canadian Museum of Nature

Located in Ottawa in the province of Ontario, the Canadian Museum of Nature was founded in 1856 by the Geological Survey of Canada. The architect David Ewart who has designed many massive stone structures around the city designed the architecture of the museum. Originally, the building used to serve as the Victoria Memorial Museum Building; later, in 1990, it acquired the status of the National Historic Site of Canada under the Museum Act.

The Museum has undergone a massive renovation from 2004-2010. Currently, it holds beautiful, modern galleries, amenities, rental spaces, and a new HD theatre. It incorporates the Earth Gallery dedicated to rock and minerals; and water gallery featuring a mounted skeleton of a blue whale.

The Canadian Museum of Nature also maintains a collection of vascular plants, mosses, bryophytes, lichens, algae, birds, mammals, and reptiles. It has a collection of natural history and art, film and audio records of bird and mammal behavior. Furthermore, collection of mounted birds and mammals are available with specimens and models for education programs.
