Canadians choose their top travel destinations for 2009

This summer, over 1,100 travellers from all over Canada and the U.S., including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary, told us where they wanted to visit for their next holiday or vacation before the year’s end.

Las VegasWhere are Canadians going for vacation in 2009?

A whopping number of Canadians are looking to visit Las Vegas and Mexico.  Large cities in the U.S. like New York, Orlando, and California followed closely behind. 

All in all, Canadians are looking for easy getaways that are affordable, don’t require long-haul flights, and are packed with experiences, attractions, and activities. 

Weekend trips and cruises were popular, as were girlfriends getaways, graduation trips, birthday weekends, anniversary and honeymoons celebratory holidays.

Travellers from Toronto like to have fun with almost 50% of people looking to have their fun in New York City and Las Vegas.  Cuba followed closely with just a few less points than Las Vegas.  London, Mexico, Orlando and other Caribbean destinations were also popular.

AustraliaMontrealers are looking to more exotic destinations.  Travellers departing from Montreal were planning on going to Hawaii, Mexico, Saint Martin, Morocco, and of course – Paris.

Vancouverites like to stay on the westcoast with California in the lead (San Francisco, San Diego, Anaheim) and Las Vegas in a close second.  Mexican cities like Mazatland and Riviera Maya were also popular.  Toronto also made an appearance at the 10th most popular spot for Vancouver vacationers.

People leaving from Edmonton and Calgary seem to be trying to get away from the cold this fall or winter – with a whopping number of travellers looking to Mexico (Manzanillo, Cancun, Rivierya Maya) for their next trip.
