To start off 2013 on the right (adventurous!) foot, Balcones del Atlántico announces an exclusive on-staff marine biologist and an exciting “Bucket List” ecotourism vacation package.
At this luxurious resort in the exotic Samaná Peninsula of the Dominican Republic, ecotourism adventures abound. In addition to offering pristine, untouched beaches and lush flora and fauna, Samaná is home to one of the largest and best breeding grounds in the world for humpback whales. Between January 15 and March 25 each year, thousands of whales from the North Atlantic population migrate to the region. Balcones del Atlántico can organize an incredible whale-watching excursion for guests to observe this spectacular environmental phenomenon, just 30 minutes from the resort.
Truly committed to the environment and this very special part of the Dominican Republic, the resort has also hired marine biologist Ruben Torres of “Reef Check – Dominican Republic,” one of only three Ph.D. marine biologists on the island, to improve and enhance the resort’s coastal and marine habitats with local coral reef protection and restoration projects. Ruben takes guests out to snorkel to the coral nursery he created, which is located right off the beach in front of the resort’s Porto restaurant. They can see the coral and learn how to measure it and record its growth. Balcones del Atlántico is the first and only hotel on the island working with Reef Check.
To take advantage of these incredible environmental offerings, Balcones del Atlántico is currently offering a “Bucket List” package, perfect for Spring Break, in which guests can choose from three once-in-a-lifetime activities during their stay: horseback riding to the El Limon Waterfall, a whale watching excursion, or a trip to the spectacular Cayo Levantado private island. Rates start at $414 per night for a two-bedroom villa suite, based on four people occupancy, with daily breakfast and a three-night minimum stay. Available now through March 31, 2013 for travel through December 19, 2013.
Balcones del Atlántico, the top luxury resort in the region, features 35 spacious one-, two- and three-bedroom villa suites within a 32-acre hotel and real estate development, each with a fully equipped gourmet Viking kitchen, a large living room, dining room and a terrace, all with fabulous views. The resort’s gourmet, open-air beachfront restaurant, Porto, offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, fabulous Caribbean fare and the largest wine collection in the Dominican Republic. Three swimming pools, water sports offerings and new beachfront spa cabanas round out the resort’s highlights. The resort is within driving distance of two major international airports including Santo Domingo (SDQ) and Samaná (AZS). New non-stop flights from New York City (JFK) to Samaná (AZS) launched in November 2012. For more information or to book a package, visit http://www.balconesdelatlantico.com.do/.
