10 Reasons to Treat Yourself to a Spa Session

Relax

According to a recent survey, Americans aren’t taking all of their vacation time! Are you one of those people?

In survey’s conducted by Expedia, Orbitz and the Travel Industry Association of America, people feel tethered to the office even when they do get away, checking e-mail from the hotel lobby, taking phone calls between cocktails and strapping a BlackBerry to themselves.

Here are 10 reasons why taking time for yourself at a spa can be both rejuvenating and be the most rewarding thing you can do just for you!

The Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Spa!

Relax1) Take time for yourself-It may seem like an indulgence but how often do you have time to just think about yourself and be able to do just want you want to do?

2) Experience healthy eating-Who wouldn’t want to relish delicious spa cuisine that is rich in flavor and taste? Guess what, you won’t feel a bit deprived either.

3) Try new activities-Many spas offers unique programs that may include: desert photography, posture alignment, color therapy, equine experiences, craft classes, breathing workshops, tarot and palm readings, cooking demos and much more. How often do you get a chance to try something fun and rewarding?

4) Get fit-Has it been awhile since you have done something active or invigorating? Have you been thinking of trying Yoga, rock climbing, hiking, a dance class or kick boxing? Spas offer an array of daily classes for all levels from the novice to expert.

5) Pamper yourself-Today’s spas offer much more than just facials, mud wraps and massages. How about Reiki (Japanese healing technique), Ayurvedic treatments (a 5,000 year old system of healing established in India), Thai massage, water therapy, Oriental bodywork or even pre-natal and golf massages. If you are not into pampering (but you might just want to try it!), spas may offer nutritional counseling, acupuncture, one-on-one training and many other non-spa related services.

6) Make new friends-Whether traveling solo or with someone, being at a spa puts everyone in the same frame of mind…you are all there to take care of yourselves. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet and explore new friendships.

Meditate7) Try meditation-If you need to de-stress and learn how to quiet your mind, many spas offer a meditation class to help guide you or a beautiful environment where you have the opportunity to just take quite time for yourself.

8) Take time to do nothing-How often do you actually not do anything? We all seem to be running in so many different directions each day between jobs, family and so many commitments. Grab a hammock, float on a raft in the pool or sit in the hot tub. What bliss!

9) Do something you’ve never done before-Have you ever wanted to try that Salsa dance class or aren’t sure what Pilates is all about? How about taking a challenge that requires you to climb a telephone pole and walk on a high wire (harnessed in and with a helmet on, of course) or try a drumming class? Doing something new and challenging can be both rewarding and empowering.

10) If you don’t take care of yourself, who will?-Once you’ve taken time for yourself, you’ll most likely decide that taking a few days for yourself was both a mental and physical boost that you didn’t realize how much was truly needed!
