Home of Mama Sarah, Obama's step-grandmother8-Day “Roots of Obama” Tour in Kenya with Intrepid Travel

The tour features a visit to the town of Kogela, the president’s father’s birthplace, guided by one of Mr. Obama’s many cousins who will take the tour members to Senator Obama High School and the home of Mama Sarah, Obama’s step-grandmother.

The balance of the tour will comprise visits to the popular game parks of Lake Nakuru in the heart of the Rift Valley and Masai Mara National Reserve so the group – no more than 12 passengers – can experience some of Africa’s most spectacular nature and wildlife.

The “Roots of Obama” tour includes transportation by safari minibus, guide, all breakfasts, six lunches (including one with the community in Kogela) and six dinners, the tour costs $2,835 CAD (plus $500 US local payment, plus airfare).  Accommodation is in a combination of hotels, lodges and tents – but as this tour is rated by Intrepid at Comfort level, meaning that accommodation is at a higher rating than other adventure tours, travellers are ensured a “soft landing” each night. Intrepid ranks this itinerary two out of five for physical fitness level required.

Departures are Fridays June 20, 27; July 18, 25; and August 15 and 22 in 2009.
