G.A.P Adventures Worldwide is bringing back their expeditions to the Polar Regions – a good thing, too, since global warming might swallow up those ice caps in the next 50 years. Travel to and visit the Arctic near the North Pole of Antarctica near the South Pole beginning January 2009 with G.A.P Adventures’ new M/S Expedition ship.

The Polar Expedition Cruises with G.A.P Adventures to the North or South Pole

The program will recommence on January 4th, 2009 – so be sure to make your bookings now so you can sail to the north to see the polar bears in the arctic or to the south to see the penguins.

UshuaiaG.A.P Adventures offers a variety of tours to the Polar Regions in the world. The average cost/duration starts from $3,770 to $11,540 for trips that begin at 10 days up to 23 days. Each adventure includes an elite Expedition Team of 10 members who are experts in marine and avian biology, nature, history, and geology of the areas you are visiting.

The Antarctica season begins this January 2009, starting from Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego (the southern-most city in the world) in Argentina.

Some trips cover the Falkland Islands and the South Shetland Islands. You’ll see the south polar region’s massive glaciers and icebergs, penguins, seals and numerous types of whales swimming through the freezing waters below.

In March, after the Antarctica season, the Expedition will cruise north to the Arctic – the Realm of the Polar Bears. Stops include the Azores, a group of Portugal’s islands far off the Portuguese coast, Great Britain and depart from Scotland via the Norwegian Fjords to Spitsbergen. Spitsbergen is a Norwegian island that is part of the Svalbard archipelago deep in the Arctic Ocean where from April to August, there are 24 days of sunlight. More information about Arctic tours will be available soon!

More about the G.A.P. Adventure’s New Expedition

Chilly CruiseOn June 9th, 2008, G.A.P Adventures announced its purchase of a new, world-class ship, the M/S Expedition. The Expedition was built in Denmark in 1972 and was being used throughout the coastal waters in Scandinavia for 15 years.

G.A.P Adventures has planned for a $15 million refurbishment of the ship to ensure that it is suited for expedition travel through the rough waters of the Arctic and Antarctica – like that of the “Drake Passage” – the infamous passage between southern Chile and Antarctica which is one of the safest passages through the turbulent seas where the Pacific and Atlantic meet.

The new ship allowed for the re-launch of their popular travel adventure expeditions to the chilly Polar Regions to the Arctic and Antarctica. The Expedition can hold up to 120 people and new cabins and ensuites are being added, each which have portholes or windows. Another addition will be a 360-degree observation deck for wildlife watching – not to mention a large dining room, pub, lounge, gym and sauna for guest use during the long-haul to the Arctic or Antarctica.
