Freedom Monument

Constructed in honor of soldiers who contributed towards the nation’s freedom and died in Latvian Independence war, Freedom monument of Latvia is located in the heart of Riga, Latvia. The memorial signifies the Latvia’s freedom and autonomy.

Designed by Karlis Zale, renowned sculptor of Latvia, Freedom Monument is a sculpture featuring a lady holding up three gilded stars that represents three regions of Latvia, namely Vidzeme, Latgale and Kurzeme. You can also see bas-reliefs and 13 sculptures portraying Latvian history, culture and nation’s self-possession during their freedom battle.

At a height of 42 meters, the sculpture is visible from several parts of Riga. The Lady holding glided stars in known by the name of “Liberty Statue” or “Milda”. The memorial has a text engraved on that “For Fatherland and freedom that means the monument is a symbol of Latvia’s freedom.

Freedom monument is the most photographed memorial of amongst all other monuments of Latvia. Once Latvia links up with Euro Zone Picture of the monument will feature on Euro coins of Latvia. Freedom monument is a freedom icon of Latvia that makes it a must see destination of Latvia.
