Twilight tours in Forks, Washington

Since the upshot of the series’ popularity, fans of Twilight have been flocking to the Forks in Washington to see the locations elaborated throughout the books by Stephanie Meyer.

Forks is about 2.5 hours from Port Angeles, which is about another 2 hours from Seattle.  One of the easiest ways to get there is via ferry from Victoria, BC in Canada.  There aren’t many hotels in Forks but you’ll find a hearty number of inns, motels, lodges, and bed & breakfasts.

Tours will take fans to Bella’s house, see Bella’s truck (painted red), the Cullens’ house, the police station, Forks High School, Forks Outfitters shop where Bella works, the Forks Hospital, La Push beach, and other locations that inspired the locations in Meyers’ novels.

When visiting, be sure to visit the Forks, Washington Chamber of Commerce which has turned into a Twilight Visitors Center, full of souvenirs and location maps.  Many of the sites are representative of Forks in Meyer’s novels and very few attractions relate to the films.

Although the series is set in the small town of Forks in Washington State, known as one of the “wettest places in the United States,” most of the film scenes of Twilight, the first installation of the series, were filmed in Portland and northern Oregon.

The town of Forks was filmed mainly the town of Vernonia, approx 35 miles northwest of Portland.  The police station in the film is the town’s bank.  The café where Bella and Charlie eat is actually Carver Café in Damascus, Oregon.

Forks High School in the film was actually shot at three different high schools: Kalama High School, Madison High School, and St. Helens in Portland.

Forest scenes like the beginning deer scenes and Edward/Bella’s tree-top scenes were shot at Silver Falls State Park near Salem and Silverton, Oregon.

For the second film, most of it was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, rather than Oregon.  Most of the high school scenes are said to be filmed at David Thompson Secondary School and most others were out in the woods and at a Vancouver film studio.

Scenes set in Italy were actually filmed in Montepulciano, Italy, when Bella, Edward, and Alice go to the Volturi.
