WELLNESS VACATIONS FOR FALL FITNESS

As with many things in life, the term “wellness vacation” means different things to different people. And, everyone has their own reasons for making the decision to booking this type of holiday.

So, in conjunction with a contest to win a 7-night, all-inclusive wellness vacation to Grail Springs Health Spa in Ontario (contest closes September 3), we asked readers What would be your ONE top reason for taking a Wellness Vacation.

In random order, responses included Rest & Relaxation, Get Fit, Weight Loss, Stress Management and Healthy Eating. Fortunately for those looking to kick start a healthier lifestyle, there is ample opportunity out there and new travel packages are being introduced every day. The bonus is that you can take a vacation and come back with something much more valuable than a tan or a T-shirt.

The new Travel to Wellness, Wellness Vacation section lists about 30 packaged programs – available now to April 2011 – editorially selected because they meet our definition of a Wellness Vacation.  Scheduled for the fall season, here are five to help you kick start a path to better health.

Red Mountain Resort & Spa is offering a five-night Eat Well, Feel Well Culinary School package including eight hours of private cooking school instruction helping guests learn to create and plan effective and health-efficient menus.

Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico has scheduled a series of basic and advanced classes in Pilates & GYROKINESIS (a fusion of Tai Chi, Kundalini Yoga, self massage and dance) led by mind-body movement expert Tannis.

In Arenal, Costa Rica, daily Hatha and Vinyasa Flow yoga classes, meditation sessions, endorphin-pumping water fitness classes to strengthen muscles, improve posture and restore energy plus guided nature hikes are a few of the things guests will be able to enjoy at a six-night Volcanic Yoga and Spa Retreat.

Vero Beach, Florida is the destination for a retreat featuring low-calorie, gourmet meals; protein smoothies; seminars on exercise, metabolism, and weight loss; introduction to healthy cooking; and boot camp workouts run by Steve Pfiester of the reality TV show Bridal Boot Camp.

For those who want to soak up a little French atmosphere, a four-night Boot Camp program encorporating hiking, yoga, spa treatments and healthy Mediterranean cuisine is being offered at La Reserve Ramatuelle in France. It’s good for those wanting to shed a few pounds and learn to eat heathfully.
