Ascension Cathedral,Kazakhstan

Ascension Cathedral is also called as Zenkov Cathedral, which is located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The construction of the building was completed in 1907 and is the second tallest building made of wood in the world. The idea of a Russian Orthodox Church was first proposed by bishops of the Turkistan eparchy in late 19th century and hence the construction of the church lasted in 1904 and 1907.

The inner structure of the cathedral consists of various artworks of Moscow and Kiev. The painting iconostasis made by N.khludov. During Russian revolution the cathedral was used by Kazak Soviet Socialist Republic as central state museum. It was also used by public organizations from 1930 to 1940. In 1911 earthquake disaster the cathedral did not got damaged at all. OnMay 1995 the cathedral came under the control of Russian Orthodox and after restoration various features were added, after that it was reopened for various religious ceremonies in 1941.The main feature of the modern building was the parish which was elevate to the status of cathedral.
