Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique

Bazaruto Archipelago is located near the city of Vilankulo in Mozambique. It is a group of six islands namely Bazaruto, Magaruque, Banque, Santa Caroline,Benguerra and Shell. This group of islands belong to the Inhassoro and Vilankulo districts of Inhambone Province. These islands were formed due to the deposit of sand by the Save River. The main feature of the Bazrauto Archipelago is the Santa Caroline, which is also known as the Paradise Island.

It is a true rock island consisting of deep channels and is 3 kilometers by 0.5 kilometers in size. The island includes three beaches with coral reefs lying close to the shore. The main tourist attraction of the archipelago includes coral reefs, sandy beaches and activities like fishing and surfing. In 1971, the archipelago was designated as a park. It features Moorish idols, surgeon, reef, fish, butterfly, parrot and angel. Giant turtles, Devil rays, and Dugong are also spotted in the park. The National park is also designated as a gift to the Earth by the WWF.
