Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother inaugurated The National Gallery of Zimbabwe on July 16, 1957.National gallery of Zimbabwe best represents the artistic work of many of the Zimbabwe’s artists. The gallery mainly aims at exploring Zimbabwe’s art along with promoting its heritage on international level. National Gallery of Zimbabwe largely focuses on preserving and demonstrating contemporary art of Zimbabwe.

Divided into eight exhibition areas, the gallery displays Zimbabwe’s traditional artifacts, art performance dimensional art and video art. Permanent collection of the museum comprises of around 6000 artworks related to African contemporary art, nature inspired Zimbabwe art, and English and European artworks. Besides, the gallery features some of the artistic work by local Zimbabwe artists. Data and documents of evolution and advancement of significant Zimbabwe arts are well preserved and maintained.

National Gallery of Zimbabwe often conducts various educational programs in order to educated people about importance of art and developing and improving their artistic skills. Different educational programs and events here include holiday art camp, guided tours, Saturday art classes and others.

In addition, the gallery features many other facilities of library, restaurants and café, etc. National Gallery of Zimbabwe is an ideal destination for art lovers.
