National Museum of Myanmar

Founded in 1952, the National Museum of Myanmar is located in the Yangon city. The museum represents the Burmese art, history, and culture. The Five-story building has a wide collection of ancient artifacts, ornaments, work of art, inscriptions, culture, and historic memorabilia that give a fair idea of history culture and civilization of Burmese people.

The museum holds a rich collection of art and culture of the indigenous people of Myanmar, royal regalia, musical instruments, decorative art. Ancient artifacts, work of art, and historic memorabilia are on display in fourteen galleries occupying four floors of the building. The museum also displays evolution, the Burmese script, or alphabets, the Lion Throne Room and Ratanapon pieces. The hall of culture depicts Burmese rural life, covering social, economic, cultural traditions and models of transport.

The Halls of arts covers the Burmese art from the past several centuries to present. It includes cave paintings from Stone Age to the Bagan, Innwa, Taungo, Konbaung and Yadanabon periods to 20th century contemporary art. Many musical instruments and traditional Burmese orchestra as well as marionettes used in classical dramas and operas are also on display.
