Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe

Rhodesia scientific board requested C J Rhodes on his visit to Bulawayo to establish a museum for housing increasing miner collection in 1909. On January 2 1909, Rhodesia museum came into existence, later four other museums were built representing same fields. In 1981 national museums and monuments combined all five museums together under civilization policy and formed one museum named as national history museum of Zimbabwe.

National history museum of Zimbabwe houses massive collection representing Zimbabwe’s mineral wealth, wildlife n significant history of Zimbabwe. Besides the centre point of attraction of all if the museum’s collection is world’s second largest mounted elephant.

Divided into various floors, ground floor of the museum houses rich collection of fauna of Zimbabwe that includes reptiles, fishes, birds, small mammals ,etc whereas on the other upper floor of the museum features eminent history of stone age and iron age.

Visitors can also see collection of geology related facts and objects in its numerous galleries. The museum announces few temporary and permanent exhibitions every now and then for providing information about Zimbabwe natural heritage to its guests.

From the past until present National Museum of Zimbabwe well highlights the imperative history of Zimbabwe as well as Africa.
