Oceanographic Museum was founded by Prince Albert in 1910, and is one of the masterpieces of the country’s identity. From the height of 90 meters, an impressive structure of the complex offering a view over the Mediterranean Sea. Today, Oceanographic Museum displays in its exhibition halls and its aquarium the wonders of life in the seas, recent developments and the latest discoveries marking progress in marine biology and oceanography.
The Museum features a large collection of naturalist paintings and drawings, ethnographic artifacts and artworks, models, films and photographs. Other exhibitions are permanent and temporary, present scientific, and artistic themes. Currently, on display at the Oceanographic Museum is a genuine manifesto. It takes visitors deep into the polar world. The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco brings together Art and Science in a single venue to give them their true dimension. The Aquarium houses over 6,000 specimens from the Mediterranean and tropical seas. In the aquarium, natural settings are recreated for the animals, and it also contains more than 90 tanks, one of which is a shark lagoon.
