Travel Gear: Cushe Boots

As a Florida-based travel writer who often takes cold-weather excursions, I’m always on the lookout for products that will help my wimpy self stay warm. I’m also a woman who doesn’t mind looking a bit stylish while trekking around the world. However, for me, style must also come with function.

For example, if I’m sporting sandals, they need to be comfortable enough to tootle around the cobblestone streets of Madrid. When I’m carving up waves in Costa Rica, I need my bikini to stay put. And, if I’m heading into freezing cold temps, I want my tootsies to be comfy and toasty.

When I stumbled upon Cushe, pronounced cushy, footwear at a Surf Expo awhile ago, I knew I had met my match. Their boots are so adorable and many of them are water resistant or water proof. Better yet, some are even made from recycled materials. Each pair I picked up had intricate details that make the shoes really stand out.

In March I tested out the Women’s IT Boot Cuff WP Boots in lilac grey on my trip to Quebec, and I also added them to my ensemble while in Iceland in May. They have a waterproof suede upper and knitted wool liner that kept my feet dry while walking the streets of Quebec and traipsing near glaciers in Iceland.

Overall, I adore these boots; they are super durable and not too clunky. It’s easy to see why this UK-based company is making waves in the US. I can happily report that these boots are perfect for walking about in mild temperatures. However, they aren’t the right boot for trekking through snow-packed trails; I attempted to go snowshoeing in freezing temps and had to turn back because my toes were super chilly. As long as you wear them in the right conditions, however, you should be quite pleased.
