Air Canada Reports Record Travel for Jan 2008

In a year of big change in airlines and flight services, Air Canada reported that they are doing tremendously well in early 2008.

Jazz After the Christmas and New Years holiday rush, airplane travel usually slows down significantly. But Air Canada released numbers showing that for both Air Canada and Jazz, the ratio of revenue passenger miles to the available seat miles on all flights overall increased and broke the record in 2007.

This means that on every Air Canada or Jazz flight that went out on January 2008, there was a 77.9% load factor, which was an increase of 3.8% from the previous year.

What does it all mean?

More people are booking travel outside regular holidays, whether for business or leisure travel. It also means that there has been a shift of customers choosing or preferring Air Canada vs. other companies. This could also be affected by the new rules and fees that are beginning to be charged by various airlines for extra luggage or for WiFi during the flight. Lastly – it also means that Air Canada administered well throughout January to accommodate flights and practice proper “capacity management,” to ensure there was less wasted seats on half empty flights.
